Roof Cleaning | Basildon

Project Overview

This project involved the comprehensive cleaning and restoration of a bungalow roof that was heavily contaminated with organic growth. The objective was to remove all moss, algae, and lichen, and then apply a professional-grade roof sealant. This process was designed to dramatically improve the property’s kerb appeal, restore the roof’s original condition, and provide long-lasting protection against future growth and weather damage.

Before: The roof was covered in extensive moss and lichen growth, which was not only unsightly but also detrimental to the health of the roof tiles. This organic matter traps moisture against the tile surface, which can accelerate wear and tear. This heavy growth made the property look dated and poorly maintained.

After: The transformation is remarkable. The roof is now completely free of organic growth and boasts a clean, uniform, and modern appearance. The dark grey sealant has given the property a significant visual upgrade. The roof is now not only aesthetically pleasing but is also fully protected from the elements, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for future maintenance.

The Process

  1. Safety & Preparation
    • The perimeter of the property was sheeted to protect the ground, walls and windows. Gutter downpipes were disconnected to prevent blockages from the debris that would be washed from the roof.
  2. Manual Moss Removal
    • The bulk of the moss was carefully scraped from the tiles by hand. This step reduces the amount of mess created during the jet washing phrase and ensures a more effective clean.
  3. Professional Jet Washing
    • The entire roof surface was systematically jet washed using professional equipment. This safely and effectively removed all remaining ingrained dirt, algae, and lichen, restoring the tiles to their original clean state.
  4. Gutter Clearance
    • Once the roof was clean, all gutters were thoroughly cleared of the moss and debris dislodged during the cleaning process.
  5. Roof Sealing/Coating
    • After allowing the roof to dry completely, a high-quality, professional roof sealant was applied. The client chose a modern dark grey finish, which not only provides a waterproof barrier but also contains properties to inhibit future moss growth and revitalise the roof’s appearance.
  6. Final Cleanup
    •  All equipment and protective sheeting were removed, and the entire work area was washed down, leaving the property immaculate.

Conclusion

This roof cleaning and sealing project was a major success. The process has transformed the look of the property, adding significant kerb appeal and value. The client was delighted with the outcome, now having a roof that look brand new and is protected for years to come.
