Block Paved Driveway | Benfleet

Project Overview

We recently completed this block paved driveway in Benfleet, Essex, transforming what was previously a front lawn into a smart, practical parking area that complements the property beautifully.

The homeowners wanted to make better use of the space at the front of their home while creating a driveway that would be attractive, durable and easy to maintain. By replacing the existing grass with block paving, we were able to considerably increase the usable driveway area while retaining the established hedging around the property.

Preparing the New Driveway

As with any good driveway installation, getting the groundwork right was an important part of the project. The existing lawn and soil were excavated to create the required depth for the new driveway.

Once the area had been cleared and prepared, a suitable sub-base was installed and compacted to provide a strong, stable foundation. A membrane was also incorporated during the preparation before the laying course was added and carefully levelled ready for the paving.

New Block Paving

For the finished driveway, we installed warm multi-tonal block paving, bringing together shades of red, brown and charcoal that work particularly well with the traditional appearance of the bungalow.

The main driveway was laid in a classic herringbone pattern, creating an attractive finish while also providing excellent strength for a frequently used driveway. Darker charcoal blocks were used around the perimeter to create a defined contrasting border.

We also continued the paving neatly up to the entrance of the property, including a new block paved doorstep, helping the entire frontage feel like one complete installation rather than simply an additional parking space.

The Finished Driveway

The transformation has made a huge difference to the front of the property. What was previously a lawn is now a spacious and practical block paved driveway, providing considerably more usable off-road parking while giving the home a smarter, more welcoming appearance.

The established hedges and planting around the edges have been retained, so the property still benefits from plenty of greenery while gaining the convenience of a much larger driveway.
